Birthday Celebration Suite

When a repeat client asked for an 80th birthday invitation with a Zumba theme, the honest response was to present that option... and then offer something better.

The honoree is Filipina, and the celebration was to be held at the Army Navy Club in Washington, D.C. Both details pointed in a different direction. Spanish lace, with its deep roots in Filipino culture and its associations with ceremony and elegance, became the design foundation. The client chose navy and gold, and the suite was built around those colors with a level of production craft that matched the occasion.

The invitation is a deep navy with a soft touch laminate that gives the paper a velvety, tactile quality, with gold foil typography set on top. A laser-cut lace wrap in Stardream gold—a pearlescent metallic paper with no ink or printing, just the cutwork pattern—folds around the invitation as a gatefold jacket, held in place by a belly band finished with the same navy and gold treatment. The Stardream's luminosity makes the laser-cut lace pattern shift as light moves across it.

The visual language carried through the full evening: table numbers, an event poster, and place cards all extended the navy and gold identity, ensuring that every detail of the celebration felt considered and cohesive.
